At Libra House, our mission is to provide a crisis shelter for women and their children affected by abuse in Labrador. We encourage empowerment of women in the community through compassion, support and education. We provide on-site services for residents and we are involved in a number of off-site programs in partnership with other local organizations.
A Warm and Friendly Staff That’s Here to Help
When you call or come to our office, we will sit with you and go through an assessment to see how we can help your situation. Non-judgmental, our staff will listen and get an idea of what services could benefit you, including staying at our shelter for a short period of time or moving to another safe location. We’ll also talk about your plans for the future in regards to your relationship. We understand choices like this aren’t easy, so we can help make the transition as smooth as possible. Libra House has five bedrooms and a total of ten beds and families, and individuals can stay with us for up to six weeks.
What Happens Next?
If you do decide to leave your relationship, the staff will help you come up with a plan to do so and gain your independence. Your plan will be personalized for you, based on your particular needs. Whether that includes housing, employment, further education, childcare or medical concerns, we’ll guide through the process so it doesn't need to be so overwhelming. We can even assist you in learning more about laws pertaining to your situation. If you need more help we’ll make referrals to agencies and groups that can help you work through your plan.
